Aquatic Therapy: Healing properties of water to facilitate recovery, and safely challenge weightbearing and balance activities. Sensory overflow increases the pain threshold and eases the load on joints specifically helpful with people who have chronic pain, arthritis, & fibromyalgia. Off loading helps decrease joint pain from compression, increases blood flow and ability of tissue to stretch. Great for Strengthening especially "core strength"; Gait; Proprioception; & Balance involving both static and dynamic exercises. Function & task oriented exercises can also be challenged such as sit to stand transfers, throwing, catching, and stairs; Range of Motion & Stretching; Pain Management; and Reduces Spasticity. Often work harder in the water but effort perceived is less!
Fun Facts:
When submersed to the collar bone you only feel 15% of your body weight.
Hydrotherapy creates more compression than a TED stocking! Hydrostatic pressure at your foot=80mmHg. Great particularly for lymphedma, & post-operative conditions.
Dulls nerve endings=pain relief! Easier to move, workout & stretch. Great for arthritis, fibromyalgia, & chronic pain.
