Post-operative Rehabilitation: For example, rehabilitation is crucial after undergoing a total hip replacement, full or partial knee replacement, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL) or meniscus repair, rotator cuff tear repair, a heart surgery or any other surgery. The focus of post-operative rehab is to decrease your pain & swelling, while your regaining strength, mobility & confidence which speeds up your recovery significantly. A physiotherapist will create an individualized treatment plan to help you recover and improve your range of motion, strength, coordination, endurance and balance. Treatment may include hands on joint mobilization techniques, active assisted stretching, gait training (re-training your walking technique), endurance training, therapeutic exercises (strength, balance, coordination, proprioception), mobility aid training, reviewing how to safely get in and out of a car, go up and down the stairs, or put your clothes on, provide education on adaptive tools to compensate for reduced movement while working to restore your body’s movement as soon as possible. Physiotherapists also provide education on the best positioning techniques in order to facilitate your recovery & rate of healing (avoiding dysfunction) or on precautions such as hip precautions, sternal precautions, or any weight bearing precautions. We treat the whole person by working with you, your family, physician and community services to help you live a rich and fulfilling life.
